This week we interview Rashim McKinney who is the President and Chief Innovation Officer of the Gibraltar Solutions Development Company, an economic research and development firm based in Montgomery, AL. Gibraltar informs policy and programs that guide public and private investment. To advance small business, entrepreneurship, and innovation culture across the Deep South– with a focus on ecosystem building, workforce development, and start-up acceleration.

A Veteran and former Air Force Officer, Rashim was commissioned through Det 015–, the historic ROTC unit established at Tuskegee Institute in 1919 and home of the Tuskegee Airmen. During his career as an Acquisitions Officer, he led diverse teams to develop and administer Defense Space, Education, and Information Technology programs of increasing resource responsibility and technical complexity.

Strategist, bridge-builder, and trusted adviser to community leaders, organizers, and activists alike, Rashim is deeply committed to the community. He has worked alongside change agents, stakeholders, and decision-makers to establish forward-thinking public-private partnerships and initiatives that produce meaningful outcomes including Social Montgomery, I-85 Cyber Corridor Movement, Montgomery Techlab, The Lab on Dexter, The Alabama Collective, and River Region Trails.

McKinney holds a Masters of real estate development from Auburn University and a B.S. in management science from Tuskegee University. He is a proud girl dad of three daughters: Maia, 16, Annelise 6, and Simone 4.
